The sentencing of a federal correction officer who pleaded guilty to having sex with an inmate has been postponed.

Nancy Gonzalez will now be sentenced next month for having sex with Ronell Wilson, who was convicted of killing a police officer, while she was an officer at the Metropolitan Detention Center in 2012.

She has since given birth to Wilson's son but does not currently have custody.

In a letter to the judge, the prosecution urged a sentence of between 10 and 16 months, saying Gonzalez has "not demonstrated full acceptance of responsibility and remorse for what she has done."

Her lawyer, Anthony Ricco, disagrees.

"Well I would say this. She pled guilty. That's taking responsibility," Ricco said. "She pled guilty early. And one usually expresses remorse at church, with your pastor, with your family, at home, in quiet moments."

The judge said he postponed the sentencing because he did not have adequate information from both sides.

He gave the lawyers time to file their papers correctly.
