A vigil was held Sunday for the 4-year-old boy who investigators say suffered weeks of torture before he was killed.
The family of Myls Dobson and their supporters released balloons in his honor outside the Midtown apartment building where he was found unconscious last week.
He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Kryzie King, 27, is charged with assault and reckless endangerment in the boy's death.
She had been taking care of Myls since his father went to jail in December.
The charges against her could be upgraded once a cause of death is determined.
Police say she burned the boy, beat him and starved him.
The boy's mother, Ashley Dobson, lost custody because of financial issues.
She broke down in tears as she spoke about her son.
"Miles was an excellent little boy. He always loved everybody. He'd make you smile. He'd say I love you. He just had a bunch of love. He was so sweet," Dobson said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered the Administration of Children's Services to review the case.
