Police are investigating after a man was found dead Friday morning in the East New York deli where he worked.

Investigators say Hisham Zidan was found by a customer in the basement of the Stanley Avenue deli.

Police say that the cash register and the back door of the deli were open when they arrived.

The store owner's son said that the victim had only worked at the deli for three weeks.

He also said that the victim's wife and five children live in Jordan.

"I was talking to him yesterday. He was telling me that he was going to apply for citizenship and he's going to get his family, he's going to try to get his family over here," said Akram Mohamed, a friend of the victim.

The medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
