Con Edison says it set a new energy record for a winter day on Tuesday.

At the height of the cold, the utility says natural gas and electricity usage spiked to its highest level in the company's history for a winter day.

The peak came at around 6 p.m., when temperatures registered a blustery 9 degrees, with wind chills making it feel like it was 8 below zero.

While temperatures are expected to warm up by the weekend, Con Ed is advising customers to conserve energy.

For tips on how to do that, visit the utility's website at coned.com.
