The New York City Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at a Roman Catholic Church in Queens.

The stone statue of the Virgin Mary on the grounds of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Parish in Ozone Park was decapitated.

The damaged statute was discovered Monday morning, and the NYPD's hate crimes task force is investigating.

Officials at the church declined to comment.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
