After an accident-plagued year, sources tell NY1 that the president of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Metro-North Railroad is stepping down.
Sources tell NY1 that Howard Permut will be retiring at the end of this month.
He had been head of Metro-North since 2008.
Permut has come under fire after a serious of accidents, most recently the deadly derailment in the Bronx last month.
Four passengers were killed.
It was the first fatal accident in the railroad's history.
