Limited use of medicinal marijuana could soon be legal in New York under an initiative set to be unveiled this week.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning to announce an executive action allowing limited use of the drug for people with serious illnesses.
The Department of Health would set eligibility standards to receive marijuana from one of only 20 hospitals across the state.
Cuomo, who was long against medical marijuana, plans to announce his change of heart during Wednesday's State of the State address.
Just last week, Colorado started allowing the selling of marijuana to anyone over the age of 21, and not just for medical reasons.
