Police say illegal fireworks were the cause of an explosion that rocked the Bronx late Monday night.

Investigators say a large number of fireworks were set off inside a garbage can on a baseball field at Pelham Bay Park.

Local residents tell NY1 the incident caused windows and walls to shake around 11:30 p.m.

The fire department says it got a number of 911 calls about the noise, including some from New Jersey.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
