Outgoing police commissioner Ray Kelly thanked the NYPD for a job well done in a video posted online.
After twelve straight years at the department's helm, Kelly spoke directly to his force in the video.
"As my time as Police Commissioner comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank every member of the department for your outstanding work,” he said. “Against everyone's expectations but our own, crime has been driven down by more than 30 percent from where it was in 2001.”
“My thanks to all of you on a job well done,” he added.
Specifically, Kelly touted the department's success in foiling 16 terror plots against the city and credited them for building bridges with the community.
Kelly also served as commissioner from 1992 through the beginning of 1994.
