Police say that a 35-year-old man and his 3-year-old son are dead after they fell from a building in Manhattan.

The incident happened on West 60th Street between Ninth Avenue and 10th Avenue at around noon Sunday.

Police were still investigating the circumstances of the fall as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, but officials said the father was not a resident of the building.

They also said he did not have custody of the child.

Police say the child was pronounced dead at Roosevelt Hospital.

The man died at the scene.

"They were pumping his chest and doing working on him, and nothing," said Luis Ortiz, a witness at the scene. "You could tell that he was already slipping away."

Police say that a friend of the father may have lived in the building at some point.

The suspects had not been identified by police as of 6:45 p.m. Sunday. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
