The driver of a tractor trailer has been on arraigned on charges in connection with an accident Friday morning in Queens that left an 8-year-old boy dead.
Police say Mauricio Osorio-Palominos, 51, of Newark, is charged with aggravated unlicensed driving.
New Jersey officials say he has a valid license to drive the truck there but say it's possible to have a suspension only in another state.
Noshat Nahian, a third grader at PS 152 in Woodside, was hit by the rear wheels of the truck as it was making a left turn at Northern Boulevard and 61st Street.
"I heard like a little crash, a bump sound, and a whole bunch of kids screaming, and I went over there to the next block, and I saw the crossing guards going towards the end of the other side of the street, and all the kids were in the street screaming," said one witness.
"It's very dangerous that street. I don't like to walk in that street," said one area resident.
Police say there was no crossing guard at that intersection.
The boy's 11-year-old sister was with him.
The city Department of Transportation says it will be inspecting the accident location to see if there any ways to enhance its safety.
