Flu shots will soon be required for children who attend day care and preschool in the city.

The Board of Health has passed a resolution mandating the flu vaccine for children under the age of 6 who are enrolled in school-based child care programs.

The resolution applies to about 150,000 kids.

Children will have to prove that they've been vaccinated by December 31 of each year or they could be excluded from those programs.

The city says that kids who have valid medical or religious reasons for not being vaccinated will be exempt from the new requirement.
