Norman Rockwell's 1951 painting "Saying Grace" shattered auction records Wednesday in Manhattan, selling for $46 million at Sotheby's.

That's a new record for Rockwell, whose previous highest-selling work went for $15 million in 2006.

It also broke the record for any work sold at an American art auction.

That record-holder was the painting "Polo Crowd" by George Bellows, which sold for nearly $28 million in 1999.
