Sources tell NY1 that police are questioning a suspect in connection with the rape of a woman in a New York University building in late October.

Sources say that a DNA sample taken while the suspect was being held at Rikers Island for a separate incident is a possible match for DNA already collected as evidence in the rape case.

Police say the suspect confronted a 24-year-old woman near NYU's Catholic Center, then dragged her inside the Washington Square South building and raped her.

She eventually was able to fight him off, according to police, and he fled the scene.
