After almost a week on the run, a fox named Helena is back home at the Staten Island Zoo.
Zoo officials say that Helena escaped last Monday after she apparently burrowed under the fence of her enclosure.
She made it more than a mile to the neighborhood of West Brighton.
A few residents there saw her and called the zoo, but it still took days to catch the 7-month-old fox.
"Everybody was worried that she would not survive," said Marion Land of West Brighton. "Plus, Saturday, it was freezing temperatures here. That's when I got very worried, Saturday night."
"I feel great, because at least now, she's going to be in a safe place again," said Eddie Reyes of West Brighton.
The zoo says that she'll be put back in her newly secured exhibit after a full medical evaluation.
