A fire in an Upper West Side apartment injured three people, one of them seriously, Monday evening.

Officials say the fire broke out on the fourth floor of a building on West End Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.

It quickly moved up to the fifth floor, and eventually to the roof.

Firefighters said that they were able to bring the flames under control in 45 minutes.

They said that everyone was evacuated safely.

The Department of Buildings will examine the scene to see when the residents can return.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
