The South Street Seaport welcomed the return of a longtime tradition Friday, as the Seaport's Christmas tree is lit up for the season.

A festive scene featuring live music and dancing helped ring in the holidays at the Seaport.

Hurricane Sandy prevented the tree from going up last year, and people NY1 talked to said that they're glad to see it return.

"It was post-Sandy. It was very dark here," said Phillip St. Pierre, general manager of the South Street Seaport. "There was no electricity. There was no shops. There was no people. So this particular tree lighting has significance."

"There's still a few generators on the streets, but really, most of the businesses are open again," said one person. "So I think we're doing pretty good."

It was the 30th tree lighting ceremony at the Seaport.
