The Red Cross is helping families affected by Hurricane Sandy prepare for Thanksgiving.

Volunteers handed out frozen turkeys and pies at the Coney Island Gospel Assembly Saturday.

More than 200 frozen turkeys were distributed at the event.

"These meals that the Red Cross is providing, but also that all of these other amazing community organizations are providing, are really making a difference," said one person.

"It's really hard for the people out here who are struggling, and I really wanted to help them," said another. "It makes me happy to help people a lot."

"The best reaction is a smile, and a thank you," said a third.

The event is one of several that the Red Cross is taking part in to help Hurricane Sandy victims this holiday season.
