New York Cares is helping get holiday gifts to city kids who might not otherwise have them this season, and you can help, too.
The Winter Wishes program collects letters to Santa from children at schools, homeless shelters and social service agencies around the city.
Volunteers then purchase, wrap and mail the gifts to the needy kids.
"We ensure that all of the children genuinely need something this holiday season," said Gary Bagley of New York Cares. "One thing that always touches me is, so many of the children don't ask for something for themselves. They'll ask for something for a sibling or their parent."
