A Brooklyn mother is facing charges after police said she passed out on the street and left her baby in its stroller nearby.
Police responded to a 911 call at around 11 p.m. on Sunday and found a 1-month-old baby boy alone in a stroller on the corner of East 9th Street and Avenue V.
Police said the child’s mother, 21-year-old Alevtyna Savchuk, was discovered unconscious on a sidewalk a few blocks away.
The child and mother were both taken to the hospital separately, where it was discovered that they were related.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the baby is now with the Administration for Children’s Services.
"...went to this woman's residence to see if there were any relatives there who could take custody of the child. When they went there they found people who were intoxicated and a determination was made that the baby should be kept in the custody of ACS."
Police believe alcohol was involved in the incident.
The mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
