A mural honoring U.S. veterans was officially unveiled in Brooklyn Saturday.

Fort Hamilton Athletic Field is now home to the artwork, which is dedicated to the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Many expressed gratitude for the community-based art project.

"I think this is representing our nation's strength," said one person.

"I think it's a great tribute to the armed services that we have today," said another.

"But when we come home and we see things like this, we come to realize that we are appreciated," said a third.

City Councilman Vincent Gentile of Brooklyn said that he spearheaded the mural after the city decided not to host a parade for New York veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan last year. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
