From swimming to skating, Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool opened Friday as the city's newest holiday destination.

NY1's own Pat Kiernan was there to help city officials cut the ribbon.

He even laced up his slates and tried out the ice.

"I don't think it's ever going to be as cold here as it was in some of those days when I was six years old and playing hockey outside on a rink in Canada, but I wore my skating scarf. I'm ready to go. It feels a little bit like Canada, but New York is home and it feels like a great addition to New York," Kiernan said.

The 7,200 square foot rink in Greenpoint can accommodate up to 300 skaters at once.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for kids.

Skate rentals will be available, along with skating clinics and demonstrations.

The rink will be open through January. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
