A Brooklyn man convicted of murdering his girlfriend's 19-month-old daughter was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in prison.
A judge sentenced Allen Shannon in the toddler's March 2010 beating death.
He was convicted last month of second-degree murder.
Investigators say it happened at the home of the child's mother.
They say that Candice Jones left her daughter in Shannon's care when she went to work.
According to prosecutors, Shannon called Jones the next morning to tell her that the child didn't look well.
The child was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
The medical examiner said she was killed by blunt impact injuries to the head and torso, as well as fractures and internal injuries.
