The organizers of the New York City Marathon are taking steps to help service members re-adjust to civilian life.
New York Road Runners is teaming up with the advocacy group Team Red, White and Blue to offer veterans discounts on memberships and entry fees for races.
The goal is to keep veterans physically fit and engaged with their communities.
"When I came home, I gained a little weight, kind of disconnected socially with family and friends," said Joe Quinn, captain of the New York chapter of Team Red, White and Blue. "It takes kind of a community to get you back on track."
"Team Red, White and Blue is a great example of organizations that are doing the same thing, that they're activating their community to be active and physically fit," said Jennifer Slomack, senior communications director of New York Road Runners.
