Voters statewide approved Tuesday a ballot referendum to build up to seven Las Vegas-style casinos.
As of midnight, with 77 percent of precincts reporting, 56.5 percent of voters statewide voted “Yes” on a constitutional amendment to authorize the construction of seven casinos.
It's a major win for Governor Andrew Cuomo, who pushed casinos as a way to keep money in the state and help the upstate economy.
The first four casinos will be built upstate, but it’ll be up to developers to decide where. In about seven years, work could begin on a casino in New York City.
