Several children were injured Wednesday morning after a school bus overturned on Staten Island.

The city Department of Education says it appears a heavy duty pickup truck collided with the mini school bus, flipping it on its side around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Preston Avenue and Oakdale Street in Eltingville.

Four children, along with the bus matron and driver were taken to the hospital.

The driver of the truck and his daughter were also treated for minor injuries.

"This is unusual because he is a very careful driver. I find it hard to believe with clear weather, no rain that it happened," said the truck driver's father.

Residents say they have previously petitioned for a stop sign at the intersection.

The Department of Transportation says it will once again revisit the issue, but during a previous review it was determined that the intersection did not qualify for any additional intersection controls.
