Plans to lay off hundreds of employees of Long Island College Hospital were postponed Monday.
Between 400 and 500 employees would have been sent home as early as Monday, but the New York State Nurses Association says that SUNY and Staffco agreed to delay the layoffs, at least for several weeks.
SUNY did not comment on the postponement.
Earlier this month, a judge's decision stalled SUNY Downstate's plan to close the facility, saying that the state's law governing the closure of hospitals was unconstitutional.
SUNY Downstate has repeatedly tried to close LICH, saying it is losing millions of dollars per month.
SUNY has said it is trying to find another health care provider to take control of the hospital.
