It was a close call on the subway Tuesday after a man in a wheelchair fell onto the tracks.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say the accident happened just before 6 p.m. at the 59th Street and Lexington Avenue subway station.

According to witnesses, the man rolled onto the downtown express tracks.

A passerby then rushed to help before the train pulled into the station.

"I was just on the escalator and I saw, I heard a lot of screams, so I looked down I saw a lot of people getting off the escalator running back towards the platform, and I heard some really bone chilling screams, so I guess, I figure someone had to have fallen on the tracks," said one witness.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
