Law enforcement officials announced Thursday the foiling of a murder-for-hire plot by two Rikers Island inmates jailed for their role in a massive cigarette trafficking case.

The state attorney general's office says Staten Island resident Yousseff Odeh and another man conspired from behind bars to murder witnesses cooperating in the case against them.

In May, the two men and 14 other co-conspirators were charged for their role in an alleged cigarette smuggling ring with possible ties to terrorism.

Officials say the suspects made tens of millions of dollars and are worried some of that money went to support groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
