Police in Queens say they discovered a family living in squalor with signs of child and animal abuse on Sunday while responding to a dispute at the home.

They say they found five adult pit bulls and 10 pit bull puppies living alongside four children, ages seven to eleven in an unsanitary apartment located at 101-41 125th Street in Richmond Hill.

Jasean Holmes, 29, was arrested on charges of assault, endangering the welfare of a child and animal cruelty.

One neighbor tells NY1 the accusations are not true.

Neighbor: They took care of all their dogs.

Reporter: What about the kids?

Neighbor: The kids they took care too.

Reporter: Did they fight a lot?

Neighbor: Not to my knowledge they didn't.

The children were taken to Jamaica Hospital for evaluation.

The Administration for Children’s Services will have temporary custody.

Animal Care and Control removed the dogs.
