Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a Staten Island convent as a possible hate crime.

The 2-alarm fire broke out shortly after 5:30 a.m. on the first two floors of St. Joseph Hill Academy in Arrochar.

The New York City Fire Department says the fire is suspicious.

NY1 is told that one nun was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while another woman refused medical attention.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
