A 21-year-old woman has died after being hit by a mini-school bus carrying small children in the Bronx.
Police say the woman was skateboarding on Melrose Avenue in Melrose at around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when she was hit by the bus, which was making a turn.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at Lincoln Hospital.
Witnesses said that the driver didn't know he hit her.
"That school bus went to make a right-hand turn on to 160th Street, and there she came, and wasn't able to stop and went right underneath the school bus," said one witness.
"I did notice a young lady in a purple shirt waving for the driver to back up," said another. "Apparently, he hadn't known that he was on top of her, and it freaked me out. I ran upstairs. I called 911."
Officials said that the three students on the bus were not injured.
The accident is still under investigation.
