More than 100 volunteers spent their day Saturday cleaning up an area of Brooklyn's coastline.
Volunteers came out to pick up trash in the Shellbank Creek at Gerritsen Beach.
They say garbage has been accumulating and destroying the salt marsh there, and they want to make the area cleaner and safer.
"The inspiration behind it is, it's good for the environment, it's good for the kids to learn about the environment," said Michael Taylor, president of We Care New York. "It's like a win-win situation."
The cleanup day is part of a larger effort to document and analyze pollution along the shoreline.
