A horse and buggy accident in Midtown Thursday is renewing calls to ban them from the city.
An Instagram video shows firefighters on Columbus Circle trying to free the horse from the wreck.
Witnesses say the horse was behaving erratically, causing the carriage to flip over.
Witnesses also say the horse was taken away with a bleeding leg.
A representative from the Horse and Carriage Association says the horse was startled when its leg buckled and became tangled in its harness.
The horse is back in the stable and in good condition.
Friends of Animals Director Edida Birnkrant says this is another example of why the buggies should be banned.
"There is no way to have horse drawn carriages in New York City to make it safe, to make it humane for the horses. This is hell on earth for horses. Midtown Manhattan traffic is no place for a horse," Birnkrant said.
No one else was injured.
The horse did cause minor damage to a parked car.
The Horse and Carriage Association says it's been 14 months since the last similar incident.
