A man was arrested Wednesday night and charged with murder in connection with the 2009 homicide of a Fashion Institute of Technology student.
Jose Martinez, 20, is now charged with second-degree murder, predatory sexual assault and burglary.
He's accused of killing 23-year-old Carmen Saldana-Mundo.
She was found strangled to death in her Astoria apartment on July 12, 2009.
The victim's family was in the courtroom Thursday, facing the alleged killer.
Her brother, Carlos Saldana, said he's glad to finally see someone behind bars.
"I feel very angry about it, and it's sad that what happened to us, but in some way, it's a relief that they caught this person," Saldana said. "He's claiming he's innocent, but I don't know. By what we know, his DNA is there, and I think he should be in prison."
Martinez was arrested earlier this week after investigators matched his DNA from a 2012 conviction to DNA found at the crime scene.
He was 16 years old at the time.
