Mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio is getting some support from the country's top Democrat, President Barack Obama.

In a statement released by de Blasio's campaign, the president praises the Public Advocate's commitment to education, affordable housing and community hospitals.

He went on to say, "Progressive change is the centerpiece of Bill de Blasio's vision for New York City, and it's why he will be a great mayor of America's largest city."

In the same statement, de Blasio said he is honored to receive the support and says he will look to follow the president's example and work closely with him if elected.

Obama endorsed Bill Thompson in the 2009 mayor's race, although that announcement came much closer to Election Day. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
