Traffic came to a halt in the Astoria section of Queens Saturday afternoon after a five-car crash at Broadway and 31st Street.

Authorities believe a cab hit a double-parked car, which then hit another car.

They say that car then jumped the curb and hit another car.

The accident frightened pedestrians nearby.

"I've never seen anything like that in this neighborhood," said one witness. "But there are a lot of double-parked cars in this neighborhood, and people in this neighborhood are not particularly considerate in how they drive."

"It's scary, it's scary. That's very scary," said another. "The area is very busy. It's a lot of people and a lot of businesses around here."

The New York City Fire Department says eight people were injured.

Six were taken to area hospitals.
