Investigators are trying to determine what caused a remote control helicopter to suddenly crash, killing its young operator.
Friends and family held an impromptu mass at his former school Friday morning to honor 19-year-old Roman Pirozek Jr.
He was flying the helicopter at Calvert Vaux Park in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn Thursday afternoon when it fell and fatally struck him in the head.
Pirozek was a member of a club that regularly flies its remote control helicopters in the park.
One neighbor, Victor Tammaso, told NY1 that Pirozek Jr. was a master at his craft.
"It was probably just a malfunction on the helicopter that it was flying. I heard he was doing a stunt and it just went wrong, it went haywire," Tammaso said. "He knew everything about it. If it would break, he would replace it. The blades, the body, you name it, he knew how to repair it."
Pirozek Jr. had posted videos of him flying the chopper on YouTube.
