A man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he fired shots in a crowded Bronx park Friday evening, injuring a 3-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man.

Police say 27-year-old Alexis Tatis fired the shots shortly before 6 p.m. Friday inside Vidalia Park in the West Farms section of the Bronx.

Fire officials say the 3-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to the arm, while the 36-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 3-year-old was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, while the 36-year-old was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

A basketball tournament was taking place at the time.

Witnesses said it was a scary situation in the crowded park.

"Guys were fighting, and the next minute, shots were fired," said witness Cherice Gonzalez. "I grabbed my 5-year-old daughter, my 5-year-old niece. I threw ourselves on the floor. We put our heads down, and we didn't do anything else. I got up in a stage where I couldn't even speak. I saw another mom grab her daughter. She didn't know what she was doing, where to run, where to go. I saw kids screaming, crying. It was just terrible."

Both shooting victims are listed in stable condition. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
