A man shot by police, after they say he was caught stabbing a woman in a Bronx apartment on Saturday night, has been charged with attempted murder.
The incident happend around 8:30 p.m. on Morris Avenue in Melrose.
Authorities say a woman flagged down two officers and told them about the attack in progress.
Officers headed inside, where police say they saw 37-year-old Guillermo Melendez stabbing a woman repeatedly.
Police say they ordered Melendez to stop, and fired when he did not.
According to officials, the victim, who suffered numerous stab wounds to her neck, hand, chest and leg, and the suspect were transported to Lincoln Hospital and are in critical but stable condition.
The officers were taken to Jacobi Hosptial for ringing in the ears.
Officials say an 11-inch knife was recovered at the scene.
Melendez is also being charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and attempted assault of a police officer, according to authorities.
