A Rockland County family is fearing the worst after a woman's body was found near the site of a boating accident on the Hudson River.
Two people disappeared after their boat crashed into a construction barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge Friday night on what should have been a short trip across the river from Piermont to Tarrytown.
The two missing were identified as bride-to-be Lindsey Stewart and her fiance's best man, Mark Lennon.
Searchers found a female body about a half-mile from the crash site on Saturday. Police believe it is Stewart but by Sunday morning had not confirmed that yet.
Four others on board the boat, including Stewart's fiance Brian Bond, were rescued.
Local officials said the driver of the boat, 35-year-old JoJo John of Nyack, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and three counts of vehicular assault, as they believe he operated the boat while intoxicated.
"The 911 center received a call at about 10:41 last evening from the boat that had they struck an unknown object in the river and they needed help," said Robert Van Cura of the Rockland County Sheriff's Office. "They had two people overboard, four people on board with serious injuries."
"As they were coming to shore, there were at least 10 to 15 medics just waiting for the boats to come," said a man who witnessed the aftermath of the accident. "They had stretchers, they had blankets, they had towels, everything they would need, and they were just dragging people off the boat and onto the stretchers."
The surviving four are expected to recover from head injuries and broken limbs suffered in the accident.
Stewart and Bond were due to be married on August 10.
