The city has issued a recreational water body advisory today for both the Hudson and East rivers following an overnight sewage spill in Harlem
The advisory is in effect until 4 p.m.
Boaters and kayayers are advised to avoid contact with the water in the area from the George Washington Bridge down to Lower Manhattan and in the East River from Lower Manhattan north to the Manhattan Bridge.
Swimming is not recommended in those areas either.
This comes after an electrical issue Monday night caused a water treatment plant in Harlem to spew raw sewage into the Hudson.
The city is taking steps to disinfect the water and will be testing water quality all day.
