Former CIA Director David Petraeus is taking a substantial pay cut to teach for the City University of New York following an outcry from elected officials and faculty over his original salary.
CUNY says Petraeus will now take just one dollar to work as a visiting professor at Macaulay Honors College.
CUNY had previously said that Petraeus was going to be paid $150,000, all drawn from private funds, though some reports put the initial number even higher.
However, after criticism from elected officials and other faculty, the school and Petraeus agreed to the pay cut.
This is Petraeus' first undergraduate teaching job, and one of his first moves back into public life since resigning from the CIA in November after admitting to an extramarital affair.
