Five firefighters are in the hospital after they battled a fire in the Bronx Tuesday evening.
The fire took place at the Reyes Produce NY, a produce wholesale distributor in Hunts Point.
It began at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A woman in the office on the second floor said there were three other people inside on the first floor when she got out.
Firefighters said they made sure everyone was out before fighting the fire from the outside.
Approximately 150 firefighters were on the scene.
Fire officials said the fire was difficult to control because of the type of material inside.
"Due to the type of construction, we had steel construction, which is very vulnerable to fire, we pulled everyone out of the building and off the roof," said Deputy Chief James Nichols of the FDNY. "That's why it was an exterior operation."
Three of the five firefighters were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but are said to be stable. The other two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire officials said a crew would remain at the scene through the night to douse any hot spots if needed.
