Coney Island's iconic Astrotower is no more, as crews finished dismantling the former amusement part attraction on Saturday.
The city had to take action after it began swaying more than normal last week, forcing the closure of several Coney Island attractions for the start of the holiday weekend.
The removal of the tower, which ran from 1964 through 2010, left some feeling nostalgic.
"I was just about 18 when I worked there. It was a big thing for a young guy riding, it was like an elevator going up and down, sightseeing at night," one man said. "It was really nice, you had a big crowd at that time, you know, it was nice."
Officials have not said yet whether the tower will be reassembled or if it's gone for good.
