A man charged with assaulting another man while allegedly shouting anti-gay remarks is not being charged with a hate crime.

Gornell Roman, 39, will face assault charges.

He remains in custody on $7,000 bail.

He turned himself in to police Wednesday.

Police say the two men were drinking in the East Village before the attack, during which Roman allegedly struck the victim in the head and face.
