Britain's Prince Harry appeared in Chelsea Tuesday to promote British trade and tourism before he later took part in a community baseball game in Harlem that is being sponsored by his royal foundation. NY1's Grace Rauh filed the following report.
To some, Prince Harry is a catch. But it turns out the British royal can hit the ball too.
The youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana was tossing baseballs around in Harlem Tuesday. He also caused a stir by pulling into Chelsea on a double-decker bus with Prime Minister David Cameron.
"Once I saw him hit the ball, I was like, 'Wow. He knows how to hit,'" said one person at the event in Harlem.
Harry is at the tail end of an American tour that has taken him from the White House to Colorado Springs, where he attended the Warrior Games, a competition for wounded veterans.
In Manhattan, he and Cameron promoted business relations between the U.K. and America at an event for entrepreneurs.
"If we put together our entrepreneurialism, our universities, our finance for startups and our hunger for entrepreneurship, that is how I think we will compete and succeed in this global race," Cameron said.
Kathy Wylde represents business interests at the Partnership for New York City. She said that the prince and prime minister are trying to boost London's tech sector.
"It's the sincerest form of flattery that they are here," Wylde said. "They recognize that New York has really become a global tech hub, and they're here to try and get a piece of that action."
Prince Harry's visit to the region was not all business and baseball. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took him around Seaside Heights, a town devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Everywhere he went, he seemed to dazzle the Americans he encountered.
"I just think it means a lot for New York, especially for Harlem," said one New Yorker. "I think that's something these little kids will remember for the rest of their life. I mean, you're playing ball with a prince."
Much of the trip seemed to be focused on repairing Prince Harry's public image, which took a hit after his last trip to the United States, when he was photographed in the nude with a woman at a Las Vegas hotel room.
So far, he is steering clear of any scandals. Some might say this visit was a home run.
