Some mothers in need of a helping hand got a little something extra to be thankful for ahead of Mother's Day.
The New York City Rescue Mission hosted about 500 homeless moms and their kids for the eleventh annual Mother's Day feast.
The event included lunch and live jazz as well as a gift bag and flowers for each of the mothers.
"I'm a mother of two and I'm having a marvelous time. This is a great event," participant Celeste Ortiz said.
"It's wonderful to be here for Mothers Day. I'm enjoying it," participant Sherry Staton said.
Mission officials also announced plans for a new 32-bed Emergency Women’s Shelter at the mission.
