A Manhattan shelter treated homeless mothers to a special Mother's Day celebration Saturday.
Five hundred mothers and their children were bused from shelters in Brooklyn and Manhattan to the New York City Rescue Mission for its 11th annual Mother's Day feast.
The event included lunch and live jazz, as well as a gift bag and flowers for each of the mothers.
Moms at the event said it was a great way to spend the holiday.
"I'm a mother of two, and I'm having a marvelous time," said attendee Celeste Ortiz. "This is a great event."
"It's wonderful to be here for Mother's Day," said attendee Sherry Staton. "I'm enjoying it."
Mission officials also announced plans for a new 32-bed Emergency Women's Shelter, where they said they'll be holding next year's banquet.
