Wreaths were laid outside of Vietnam Veterans Plaza at Lower Manhattan's Water Street on Saturday as part of a somber commemoration of the Vietnam War.
Names of city residents killed in action were also read.
It was part of the Defense Department's Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration.
U.S. involvement in the war escalated in 1963 and by the time America withdrew in 1973, more than 58,000 servicemen had lost their lives.
Congress has designated March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day this year.
